Competition Company

Solos, Duets & Group Dance Classes

Advanced training, performance opportunities, conventions, and competitive experiences designed for dancers who are ready to take their training to the next level.

What Is Competition Company?

Competition Company is designed for dancers who are looking for more than a weekly dance class. Through additional training, performance opportunities, conventions, and competitions, dancers have the opportunity to challenge themselves, grow their skills, and become part of a dedicated team environment.

While recreational classes focus on learning and enjoyment, Competition Company offers dancers the opportunity to further develop their technique, artistry, performance quality, and commitment through a higher level of participation.

Our Competition Company is a year-long program designed for dancers who are passionate about dance and eager to continue growing both as performers and individuals.

More Than Just Dance Training

At The Compound Dance Complex, our dance studio in Redmond, Oregon, we simply love dance competitions and conventions. Designed for Solos, Duets, Trios, and Groups, Competition Company is about much more than preparing for performances and competitions.

While dancers continue to improve their technique, artistry, and performance skills, they are also developing life skills that extend far beyond the dance studio.

Through additional training, goal setting, teamwork, and performance experiences, dancers learn how to push through challenges, work toward long-term goals, support their teammates, and take pride in their accomplishments. These experiences help build confidence, responsibility, discipline, and resilience that can benefit dancers throughout school, future careers, and everyday life.

Dancers Will Develop:

  • Confidence and self-esteem

  • Leadership skills

  • Accountability and responsibility

  • Goal setting and perseverance

  • Time management and organization

  • Teamwork and collaboration

  • Strong work ethic

  • Resilience through challenges

  • Lasting friendships

  • Performance experience

  • Communication skills

  • Personal growth and maturity

At its core, Competition Company is about helping dancers become the best version of themselves — not only as performers, but as confident, capable, and well-rounded individuals.

Competitive dance today reaches far beyond local performances. Many dancers attend regional and national conventions where they learn from professional choreographers, educators, and performers working throughout the dance industry.

Conventions provide opportunities for dancers to expand their training, experience new teaching styles, build confidence, and connect with dancers from other studios and communities.

For many dancers, conventions become some of the most memorable and inspiring experiences of their dance journey.

Solos, Duets & Groups Explained

Competition Company performances can take several different forms depending on a dancer's goals and opportunities.

Solo
A routine performed by one dancer, allowing them to showcase their individual technique, artistry, performance quality, and growth.

Duet
A routine performed by two dancers that emphasizes teamwork, synchronization, connection, and performance.

Trio
A routine performed by three dancers that combines individual performance with group dynamics and collaboration.

Group Performance
A routine performed by a larger team of dancers working together to create a unified performance through formations, synchronization, storytelling, and teamwork.

Each type of performance offers unique challenges and opportunities for growth.

Is Competition Company the Right Fit?

Competition Company may be a great fit for dancers who:

  • Love being challenged

  • Are excited to continue improving their skills

  • Enjoy performing

  • Are willing to commit to additional training

  • Thrive in a team environment

  • Want opportunities beyond recreational classes

  • Are motivated to set goals and work toward them

Competition Company is not about being the "best" dancer. It is about commitment, growth, effort, and a willingness to continue learning.

Training & Commitment

Because Competition Company dancers are representing both themselves and their teammates, participation requires a higher level of commitment and training.

Depending on the company and performance opportunities selected, dancers may be required to participate in specific classes designed to support their growth and development.

Examples include Ballet, Technique, Jazz, Lyrical, Contemporary, Hip Hop, or Tap classes, depending on the dancer's chosen company.

Regular attendance, preparation, teamwork, and commitment help ensure every dancer and team member has the opportunity to succeed.

Traveling, training, and performing alongside teammates strengthens trust, teamwork, and connection. Dancers learn how to support one another, celebrate successes together, and work toward shared goals as a team.

While the performances are exciting, the greatest rewards often come from the confidence, friendships, discipline, resilience, and life skills dancers develop along the way. These experiences help shape not only stronger performers but confident young adults who are prepared to take on challenges both inside and outside the studio.

Beyond The Studio

They are all dressed in athletic wear, mostly black jackets with white stripes, and some are wearing shorts or sports bras. Behind them is a large screen with the word 'SPOTLIGHT' in red letters, and a patterned background. The women are smiling and posing for the photo.

Competition Company dancers have opportunities to participate in conventions and competitions throughout Oregon and neighboring states.

These experiences allow dancers to:

  • Perform on professional stages

  • Learn from industry professionals

  • Gain valuable performance experience

  • Meet dancers from other communities

  • Build confidence and independence

  • Create lasting friendships with teammates

  • Experience new cities, venues, and opportunities

Every convention and competition presents new opportunities for dancers to challenge themselves, step outside their comfort zones, and continue growing as both performers and individuals. Learning how to adapt to new environments, perform under pressure, and represent themselves professionally are valuable experiences that help build confidence far beyond the dance floor.
